I used this painting as a visual to back up the video of a song I wrote with Scott Chard of Oklahoma City. Scott is one of the most brilliant musicians I have ever met. I wrote the lyrics, and Scott wrote the music and performs on this video.

Baffled Broken and Betrayed

Both the painting and the song express my heartbreak over what was once a great country. Alexandre de Toqueville said during his tour of the United States (1831-32),

America is great because America is good. When America ceases to be good, it will cease to be great.

To be clear, it is my opinion that Donald Trump destroyed the America I love. The Republican party is peopled by thugs, ignorance is a disease among their followers, and the Christian Right is wrong.

I am publishing this post after the guilty verdict in Donald Trump’s felony trials in NY. It is wonderful to see the rule of law overcome the darkness – at least for today – that covers the United States.
